Jury Awards Photographer $1 Million Verdict After Couple Spread Lies About Her

A Texas jury has awarded a wedding photographer more than $1 million after determining a newly married couple unhappy with her work launched a social media campaign to spread falsehoods about her.

The Dallas jury found Andrew and Neely Moldovan started a major campaign against Polito on social media. Newlyweds Andrew and Neely Moldovan accused Polito of demanding an extra $150 for an album cover after the couple had already purportedly paid $6,000 for the wedding photography.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Polito emailed the couple reminding them that, per the signed contract, photos would be released after the photo album was completed and that they needed to select a cover photo and submit an order form. Polito says she was prepared to absorb the $125 charge to keep the couple happy; instead they went public. "I feel good about it, it's what's right".

This was the way it was for "several weeks", and Polito said she had planned just waive the fee, but, days later, accusations that her company was "holding their photos hostage" began swirling.

The couple have in the interim declined to comment on the verdict and what compelled them to go on a mean spirited campaign against Polito. Not wanting to pay the money, Polito said she eventually chose to "absorb the cost to satisfy her customers", according to the Dallas Morning News. "People knew me and my reputation".

Meanwhile, following the NBC 5 interview, People flooded Polito's review pages with criticism.

A Dallas county jury has found that the couple's social media posts were written out of malice and found them liable for defamation, disparagement and civil conspiracy.

Adding, 'It's been a fight for myself to get my reputation back'. Where she would normally book between 75 and 100 weddings in a season, that year, Polito said she booked only two.

"I felt completely dead", she said.

The couple has an option to appeal, and Polito told Dallas News that she was looking forward to moving on and rebuilding her brand.

"Proud to say that after a week long, hard fought trial, the jury returned a verdict of over $1 Million, including punitives, for Andrea Polito, who was defamed by two bad, shameful people", Polito's attorney, Dave Wishnew, writes.

Polito said that if the reported story had been written based on how hurt or upset she was, Neely would not have humiliated her by using false statements.

A phone message left for the Moldovans' attorneys was not immediately returned Tuesday. "What's been so hard the past couple of years has been feeling so ashamed of this story".
