NBA Trade Grades: Portland Trail Blazers dump Allen Crabbe to Brooklyn Nets

Coming off the bench behind C.J. McCollum, Crabbe put up 10.7 points per game while shooting 44-percent from three-point range, but it looks as though he became an expendable piece in Portland.

Following the Blazers' use of the waive-and-stretch provision, they will have cut over $16 million off their books for the 2017-18 season.

The Blazers themselves have been linked to New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony on the trade block. Crabbe is a fine role player, but stars win games in the National Basketball Association, and Crabbe might not even be a starter.

Crabbe, who signed one of many overly lucrative contracts last season, was entering the second year of a four-year, $75 million deal that will pay him $19.3 million this upcoming season.

Wojnarowski reports the teams had to wait one year to make a deal after that, per league rules.

Anthony has a no-trade clause in his contract that he would be willing to waive to play for the Rockets or Cavaliers.

Crabbe, a second-round pick of the Cavaliers in 2013, started only 24 games with the Blazers over the past four seasons.

Making some solid improvements throughout the offseason, the Nets acquired guard D'Angelo Russell from the Los Angeles Lakers to team up with Jeremy Lin.

They want Crabbe to be a part of their young core that includes Russell, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Caris LeVert, Isaiah Whitehead and first-round pick Jarrett Allen.

The NBA insider reported on Twitter that Crabbe was traded to the Nets in exchange for Andrew Nicholson.

Brooklyn sent power forward Andrew Nicholson to Portland in the deal.

Nicholson averaged 2.6 points, 1.6 rebounds and 9.0 minutes last season.
