Nasdaq Composite posts 7 day winning streak, Dow Jones slips

USA stocks closed little changed in low volume on Monday as gains in utilities and consumer stocks offset declines in healthcare, with earnings news filtering out winners and losers across the board. The dollar index traded 0.6 percent lower at 94.56. Technology stocks were higher for the day with the S&P 500 technology sector increasing 0.02%.

The Nasdaq is up 31.84 points, or 0.5 percent.

"A$3 bulk of funds will come in as we see clarity on [the] healthcare bill".

The blue-chip index fell 54.99 points, or 0.3%, to close at 21,574.73.

Dow members Procter & Gamble rose 0.5 percent after activist investor Nelson Peltz called for deep cost cuts and said he would seek a board seat.

On Friday, stocks in the USA reached new record highs, with the Dow closing 0.4% higher, while the S&P was up 0.5% and the tech heavy Nasdaq came up just short of a new record but increased 0.6% nonetheless.




This follows a robust first quarter when U.S. companies posted their best earnings since 2011, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Financial giant Goldman Sachs, health care products maker Johnson & Johnson and health insurer UnitedHealth will report their second-quarter results early Tuesday.

Harley-Davidson slumped 9.5 percent after the motorcycle maker cut its 2017 shipments forecast.

The broad-based S&P 500 fell a hair to 2,459.14, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index rose less than 0.1 percent to 6,314.43.

Declining issues outnumbered advancers on the NYSE by 1,728 to 1,008.
