Drinking coffee may help you live longer

"Seeing a similar pattern across different populations gives stronger biological backing to the argument that coffee is good for you whether you are white, African-American, Latino or Asian", Setiawan added.

The researchers said they made a "statistically significant" observation between those who consumed the most coffee and lower risk of death, compared to non-drinkers.

The first, conducted by researchers at the global agency for research on cancer (IARC) and the Imperial college of London (Uk) gathered data from 520,000 people from 10 european countries over 16 years.

Drinking around three cups of coffee a day has been linked to a lower risk of death "from any cause" in two new large-scale studies.

More specifically, the study found that the coffee drinkers had a lowered risk of dying of digestive diseases and circulatory disease.

Most previous studies on the effects of coffee on longevity have focused on people of European descent. Even those people who drank less coffee - anywhere from one to six cups of coffee per week - were 12 percent less likely to die.

Men who drank three cups a day were 18 per cent less likely to die at any age from any cause, while women experienced an eight per cent drop. This study revealed that the drinking a significant amount of coffee everyday could lower the risks of mortality of a person.

"Coffee contains a lot of antioxidants and phenolic compounds that play an important role in cancer prevention". But an editorial accompanying the studies cited several potential reasons for dodging early death, such as the polyphenols in coffee that act as antioxidants and help cells fight free radicals.

But what we can learn from the research is that there is some link between coffee-drinking and a lower risk of death, especially from circulatory diseases and digestive diseases.

We're taking this as permission to pour a full-strength coffee nightcap. "Research on coffee has mostly shown no harm to people's health". Women who drank coffee experienced a smaller but significant 8% reduction in risk of death.

In the past the results linking coffee to life expectancy have varied, although many have extolled the health benefits of the coffee bean. People who drank decaffeinated coffee were also protected, the researchers found.

"People who drink more coffee have lower death rates compared to those who didn't drink coffee", she said. New research has your java-loving back, showing that drinking more of it could lead to a longer life.

If you are one of those people who just has to have their cup of coffee in the morning in order to function, you just might think that coffee is a gift that came from heaven to keep you awake and going. "That said, our results suggest that moderate coffee drinking.is not detrimental to your health, and that incorporating coffee into your diet could have health benefits".

Over one-third drank one cup a day, one-quarter drank two to three cups per day and less than 10% admitted to drinking four or more cups of coffee a day.
