'Bagel for Blue' raises money to honor Officer Miosotis Familia

'Bagel for Blue' raises money to honor Officer Miosotis Familia

Familia was fatally shot on July 5, while inside a mobile NYPD command unit near Morris Avenue and East 183rd Street in the Bronx.

Familia's wake will be held Monday at World Changers Church on the Grand Concourse.

The ambush shooting of NYPD Officer Miosotis Familia, 48, who was sitting in one of the RV-like mobile command centers, has added to the urgency of protecting the vehicles.

Her killer was shot by responding police.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m.at the same church. But the killing Wednesday of Officer Miosotis Familia by a gunman who walked up and blasted a single round from a.38-caliber revolver through an ordinary window has left some wondering if enough was done to protect her.

The mother of three was a police officer for 12 years, serving her community. Familia was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died, Sgt. Brendan Ryan said.

Bonds' girlfriend had called 911 hours before the shooting saying he was "acting erratically and that he was paranoid by police", Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said according to CBS New York.

Instead of charging customers for the special blue-colored bagels, Bagels R Us encouraged customers to donate to the charity that will then deliver proceeds to the officer's children.
