The Boston Celtics this offseason have made several moves to help restructure the team to better compete for an National Basketball Association title next season. While it was initially assumed that Hayward will sign a max deal worth $128 million over four seasons, there has been some talk of him taking slightly less.
Even still, Thomas has remained patient when it comes to his own contract.
Gordon Hayward has agreed to sign with the Boston Celtics, but the exact terms of his deal have not yet been hammered out.
But, let's not be insane here either, because Thomas, like the rest of Boston and the entire National Basketball Association knows, is going to get his money when 2018 free agency rolls around. I'm happy for all the guards and all the other guys getting their money, because they deserve it.
Then came his infamous Brinks truck statement.
He is set to make $6.2 million in the coming season, and when he becomes a free agent next summer, he likely will obtain a contract somewhere in the ballpark of five years, $179 million, as USA TODAY's Sam Amick reported in February.
Thomas said he is ready for a bigger and better contract. "They know they've got to bring the Brink's truck". Get the app and get the game. Boston won 53 games and earned the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference a year ago.
If that winds up happening, don't be surprised if the Celtics have that Brinks truck at his front door nearly immediately next offseason.
