Those evacuated are offered shelter with assistance from the Red Cross. Other evacuees told NBC Bay Area that when they went to close windows to prevent smoke from entering their homes, the glass was hot. The fire was burning near the Whole Foods and an Acura dealership at 24th and Valdez Street.

"We're still gathering facts but there are no reports of any injuries and that's the most important thing", CEO of builder Wood Partners Joseph Keough said, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The inferno sparked early this Friday morning, and is reportedly spreading to nearby buildings. That, combined with the threat of the careening crane prompted road closures and roughly 100 evacuations, according to White. The Intersection is set to be built again, offering 105 residential units and 21,000 square feet of retail space. By approximately 8 a.m., the fire was deemed "under control" by the Oakland Fire Department and several residents were allowed to return to their buildings. The seven-story project began construction a year ago.

A large crane in the middle of an Oakland building that was destroyed by fire is in danger of collapsing.

Instead, flames have reduced the Alta Waverly to a charred skeleton that is unstable and missing chunks of scaffolding.

Firefighters continue to pour numerous streams of water on the smoldering site.

Investigators are looking into the cause of a massive fire October 31 that gutted a three-story apartment complex under construction east of Oakland's Lake Merritt.

No one has been reported injured.

The structure is on the 2400 block of Valdez Street.

A huge fire is consuming a building that is under construction in Oakland near Lake Merritt, and evacuations at nearby buildings have been ordered.
