Besiktas complete signing of Portugal and Real Madrid star

Portugal worldwide Pepe signed for Turkish champions Besiktas on Tuesday, bringing to an end his 10-year stay at Real Madrid.

Pepe travelled to Istanbul to complete a medical with Besiktas this week.

The Turkish Super Lig club confirmed the free agent Portugal worldwide had arrived in the city with a photo and a statement on their official website.

Pepe spent the last decade as a key member of the star-studded Real Madrid side and helped Portugal to victory in Euro 2016, winning the man-of-the-match award in the victory over France in the final. Fikret Orman, the Beşiktaş chairman, was personally involved in the signing process, following efforts by the transfer committee president, Umut Güner.

And despite being linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, the Portuguese defender has agreed to a two-year deal with Besiktas, with the option of a third year, according to reports in Turkey.

The 34-year-old Brazilian-born defender joined Real from Porto in 2007 for 30 million euros ($34.05 million), winning the Liga title in his first campaign.

Do you think Pepe could have signed for a bigger club?

Pepe donned the Real Madrid jersey for nearly a decade but was left without a contract last month after he rejected a one-year extension with the Spanish club.

It will be interesting to see what Real Madrid do in this transfer window, having already lost three players this season with the likes of Diego Llorenthe, Mariano Diaz and now Pepe.
