Rolls-Royce Dawn Black Badge is dark as night

Rolls-Royce Dawn Black Badge is dark as night

Rolls-Royce's Dawn may carry a name that evokes light, but the British luxury vehicle maker has extended it's dark "Black Badge" to include the convertible - as part of a mission to attract younger affluent customers.

There's no actual pricing available just yet, but Rolls Royce says that Dawn Black Badge vehicles are now available to commission.

The Dawn Black Badge is no exception.

Even the Spirit of Ecstasy, which sits on the hood of the auto, has been finished in black chrome, and the Double R badge has been inverted in colour to showcase that this is a special edition vehicle. Considering that a new Rolls Royce Dawn costs £264,000, we'd expect the Black Badge version to price in even higher. Rolls-Royce didn't say how much the Dawn Black Badge costs, but considering a standard Dawn starts north of $340,000, it's not going to be cheap in any sense of the word.

Accompanying the black-painted body is a black canvas roof, which "opens in a "Silent Ballet" to allow in the sounds of the night", along with a rear deck that is finished in black leather.

Additional features applied to the Goodwood show auto include a rear deck clad in black leather, and interior panelling in carbon fibre, inlaid with aircraft-grade aluminum threads and hand polished to a mirror finish, and upholstery trimmed in black leather with mandarin highlights.

In the cabin, Rolls has devised a bespoke treatment for numerous trim panels, consisting of intricate threads of aircraft grade aluminium bonded with carbon fibre.

The iconic Spirit of Ecstasy has been finished in black chrome, while the "Double R" Rolls-Royce badges have been inverted in colour. More than six coats of lacquer are added after the trim has been left for 72 hours.

As for what's under the hood - it's essentially a Dawn going through an angsty phase, so you get the same authoritative 6.6-litre twin turbocharged V12 with an extra 22kW to bring the grand total to 442kW.

Smaller tweaks have been made to flawless the dialogue between ZF's 8-speed automatic transmission and the raised output of the smooth V12. Instead, Rolls has gone with tweaks to the transmission, throttle and suspension in a bid to differentiate the Dawn Black Badge, while larger brakes and a new active exhaust system are fitted.
