Dennis Rodman Thinks He Helped Broker Otto Warmbier's Release

The meetings between the two sides followed the death of Otto Warmbier on Monday, the American student returned to the USA last week in a coma after being detained in North Korea for 18 months.

In a statement on the state-run news site, a spokesman said Warmbier's death was a "mystery". His family and others have blamed North Korea for his condition. US medical authorities aren't buying North Korea's story as brain damage suffered by Otto came from physical injury and not from botulism. Through statements on KCNA, North Korea said it dealt with him according to its domestic laws and worldwide standards.

The North Koreans said that constituted a "hostile act" - and sentenced him to 15 years of hard labor.

American doctors who treated Warmbier claimed to find no evidence of botulism.

China, North Korea's main trading partner, has been accused of not fully enforcing existing United Nations sanctions on its neighbor, and has resisted some tougher measures.

Dettwyler came under fire for ridiculing Warmbier in the wake of his death at a Cincinnati hospital.

However, North Korea is now saying that they are the real victim in all this.

While Pyongyang accepted US demands for Warmbier's return on humanitarian grounds, Washington "totally distorted this truth and dared to clamor about "retaliation" and "pressure" on "dignified" North Korea, the spokesman told KCNA. His father criticized the soft approach of Obama administration towards the entire situation, and Mr.Warmbier lauded Trump for securing their son's release.

Less than a week after returning to the United States after 17 months of detention in North Korea, his family announced Warmbier had "completed his journey home".

In the "GMA" interview, Strahan asked Rodman about the backlash he's received for visiting a country that has made nuclear threats toward the U.S.

The United States has demanded North Korea release three other US citizens it holds in detention: missionary Kim Dong Chul and academics Tony Kim and Kim Hak Song. Joseph Yun, the U.S. special representative for North Korea policy, who visited Pyongyang and brought Warmbier home.

"My trips going up to North Korea is more like trying.to get to communicate sports-wise".

Throngs of mourners paid their final respects to Otto Warmbier Thursday at a public funeral at the high school he attended near Cincinnati.

US President Donald Trump has condemned the "brutality" of the North Korean regime and Secretary of State Rex Tillerson vowed to hold Pyongyang accountable for the death.
