Mike D'Antoni named NBA Coach of the Year

This year, he led the Rockets to a 55-27 record, good enough for third in the Western Conference.

D'Antoni won Coach of the Year honors for the second time, adding to the 2004-05 season award with the Phoenix Suns. The young Milwaukee star drafted from the University of Virginia averaged 10.2 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game, as he appeared in 75 games for the Bucks this past season.

Like many prior winners of this award, D'Antoni exceeded expectations. The Rockets beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games in the first round before bowing out against the San Antonio Spurs in six games in the second round.

All-Rookie Team: Malcolm Brogdon, Milwaukee; Dario Saric, Philadelphia; Joel Embiid, Philadelphia; Buddy Hield, Sacramento; Willy Hernangomez, New York. He set the National Basketball Association single season record for the most 3FGM by a reserve with 206, breaking the previous mark of 179 by Mirza Teletovic in 2015-16.

Gordon beat out Rockets teammate Lou Williams and former NBA Finals MVP Andre Iguodala for the award given to the league's top player off the bench.

The guard won the first award Monday night during the first NBA Awards show that was hosted by Drake. "The Greek Freak" Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks picked up the Most Improved Player Award.

NBA Coach of the Year was selected by a global panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

The Rockets hired D'Antoni to turn things around after a disappointing 41-41 2015-16 campaign that culminated in a first-round series loss to the Golden State Warriors.
