A thousand Uber employees still want their scandalous CEO back

A thousand Uber employees still want their scandalous CEO back

Uber boss Travis Kalanick has reportedly resigned after a shareholder revolt. "As former regular Uber user, all this demand says to me is so many in the company don't get the need for change that put Uber in jeopardy", tweeted Danny Sullivan, the influential founding editor of Search Engine Land.

They acted after months of controversy at Uber over legal and workplace issues, including sexual harassment claims, which have prompted firings, investigations and promises to reform. Instead, Uber claims that Kalanick asked Levandowski to destroy the files.

A petition has, since, being circulated within the company asking the board of governors to invalidate the resignation, BuzzFeed has reported. "I want the board to hear from Uber employees that it's (sic) made the wrong decision in pressuring Travis to leave and that he should be reinstated in an operational role". Because we have so many different subject matter issues, an overall corporate culture assessment is a good thing.

"The ferocity and velocity of attacks in this era of weaponized social media often leads companies to try to satisfy the blood lust with human sacrifice - in the form of resignations, terminations and compensation claw-backs", said Kossovsky, of what we have already witnessed at Uber. The email going around talks about how Kalanick is "critical" to the company's future success.

On Tuesday, five of the ride-hailing app's major investors had demanded the chief executive step down immediately in a letter delivered to him in Chicago, the New York Times reports. The board voted unanimously to take up the recommendations of the review and Kalanick subsequently agreed to take a leave of absence.

The firm is also exploring whether former Chief Executive Travis Kalanick knew how Uber came into possession of the records, the person added.

Kalanick's pugnacious style largely defined Uber's approach and helped it become a transportation colossus valued at $68 billion, the largest private firm backed by venture capitalists in the world. Now that Kalanick is gone (although he remains on the board) time will tell if the first six months of 2017 will have lasting consequences.

"This provision shows how serious we were about preventing any Waymo trade secrets from ever coming to Uber", Matt Kallman, a spokesman for Uber, said in an emailed statement.

She added that, "We've mis-stepped at times - I'll be the first to admit that Uber is not ideal".

The document, dated April 11, 2016, references "Pre-Signing Bad Acts", which covers behaviour including fraud and trade-secrets theft, as well as "Post-Signing Specified Bad Acts".
