Nitish made 'mistake' by supporting Kovind for President: Lalu

Nitish made 'mistake' by supporting Kovind for President: Lalu

Kovind filed his nomination papers in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior NDA leaders.

BSP leader Satish Chandra Mishra said: "Mayawatiji had said that if the opposition proposes a better Dalit candidate (than Kovind), we would support that candidate".

Kovind filed three sets of nomination papers. I do not agree to their present strategy on presidential elections, hence I took my own stand."The difference in opinion between Lalu and Nitish on the presidential elections was clearly evident in the former's Iftar party as warmth was missing between the two leaders".

Besides constituents of the NDA, which commands over 48.6 per cent of the value of votes in the electoral collegeééé that will elect the next president, regional parties such as the AIADMK, BJD, TRS and JD (U) have pledged their support for Kovind.

Amidst, all parties deciding on taking up sides as to whom to support, NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind or Opposition candidate Meira Kumar, Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan has invited Nitish Kumar to join NDA.

Meira Kumar was on Thursday announced as the Opposition' Presidential nominee.

Kovind is former governor of Bihar.

While these developments were happening, in U.P the arch-rival SP and BSP supported the opposition party and did not go along with JD (U) way which is with Kovind.

The ruling NDA government has nominated Bihar Governor Kovind for the position for the post of Indian President.

With the backing of parties outside the alliance like TRS (2 per cent), AIADMK (5.39 per cent), YSR Congress (1.53 per cent) and BJD (2.99 per cent), the NDA's support will cross the half way mark to reach almost 63 per cent.

The election for the next President of India is to be held on July 17.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar more than satisfied the bill, as she is from Bihar, she is the daughter of late Congress leader and Minister Jagjivan Ram, has had a good innings as the Lok Sabha Speaker and is a woman thereby with the added gender dimension. The term of President Pranab Mukherjee ends on July 24. "We are still treading on the path you had suggested to make the country "Sangh-mukt".don't know what made Kumar move away and extend support to a RSS man", Prasad told reporters on his arrival at the Jayprakash Narayan Airport at Patna from New Delhi.
