In spite of tweet, lawyer says Trump not under investigation

Challenged on "Fox News Sunday" about the issue, Sekulow said he could not be certain Trump was not under investigation but that no one had notified the legal team if that was the case.

Mueller is investigating Kushner's finances and business dealings in relation to the Russian Federation probe, The Washington Post reported Friday.

Chairman Chuck Grassley and the panel's top Democrat, Dianne Feinstein, plan to move forward on their inquiry, which will look into Russian Federation meddling in the elections as well as whether there was any improper political interference with the Federal Bureau of Investigation under both Trump and former President Barack Obama's administration.

This is, however, a tough sell, in part because multiple major news organizations have confirmed that the president is in fact being investigated for obstruction of justice, and in part because of phrases such as "I am being investigated" and "He's being investigated" don't lend themselves to nuanced interpretations.

Before Trump had tweeted he was under investigation, Mark Carallo, a spokesman for Trump's personal attorney Marc Kasowitz, did not deny the Post report but questioned the legality of the leaking information about the investigation, calling it " outrageous, inexcusable and illegal".

The leaders of the Senate judiciary committee have reached an agreement about the scope of an investigation into political interference at the FBI, with the possibility that the inquiry could explore whether President Donald Trump acted improperly during his interactions with fired FBI Director James Comey. He says that President Donald Trump, Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes and Democratic lawmakers should not be presuming an outcome.

"The president of the United States takes action after receiving a memorandum from his attorney general, a letter actually from his attorney general and memorandum from his deputy attorney general", Sekulow told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program. I don't tell him what to write or not write.

"I can not read the mind of the special prosecutor", he said. The denial comes days after Trump appeared to confirm he is being investigated, sending a tweet complaining that he is the target of a "witch hunt".

President Donald Trump's personal lawyer said on Sunday that Trump is not under investigation in the probe into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 USA presidential race, a statement that appeared to contradict a comment Trump himself made on Twitter last week.

But when one looks at that matter that way, "there's nothing to investigate", said Sekulow.

The escalating investigations and turmoil is making it even harder for the Trump administration to fill many still-vacant top jobs, The Washington Post reported.

"He, from every pronouncement we have seen, feels very strongly that he did nothing wrong, and he wants people to say that, because he feels very strongly about it", Rubio said. He said the "last thing we know is when he testified just a couple weeks back". To hear Sekulow tell it, if the president speaks to anyone who's passed a bar exam, that person should "respect the attorney-client privilege" and never divulge the contents of that conversation.
