Trump talks about solar power producing wall with Mexico

President Donald Trump proposed a border wall covered with solar panels in a meeting Tuesday with congressional leaders.

Trump made the pitch on Tuesday during a meeting with congressional Republicans, two lawmakers who attended the meeting told The Wall Street Journal.

The President further added that most walls which are built are 14 feet or 15 feet tall.

Trump suggested that his long-promised Mexican border wall be a source of renewable energy, a self-funding option.

Trump reportedly said that the "electricity generated" by the panels could be "used to pay for the cost" of the wall.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) confirmed the conversation in an interview with The Hill, praising Trump for "continuing to fight and following through" on his signature campaign promise. No matter how dumb an idea is, Trump is going to keep fighting for it.

The border wall is expected to cost around $22 billion and to take roughly 3.5 years to build, according to Reuters citing a U.S. Department of Homeland Security internal report.

"The president is committed to building the wall and securing the border and I commend him for it".

Surveillance cameras tower above the U.S. -Mexico border fence at Playas de Tijuana in Tijuana, Mexico. So the wall, which won't work, is now supposed to cost in the tens of billions of dollars.

"The revenue from the electricity will pay for the maintenance of the wall and the construction of the wall", Gleason told The Daily News.
